SNOHOMISH THEN AND NOW
Emails and Letters

Email From Gary Taylor, September 20, 2008:
Warner,
I first want to say how much I enjoyed seeing your photos of Snohomish.
When my family came out west from Wisconsin in the the 1800s they settled in the town of Snohomish. My great aunt grew up in Snohomish, before spending her adult life in Northern California. Before she passed away she would visit my family in Kentucky and tell me wonderful stories about your town. Since then I always wanted to visit the Snohomish I pictured in my mind. I live in Kentucky and never really had an opportunity to visit Washington or Snohomish. However, in August of 2009, another branch of my family is planning a national reunion in Corvallis, Oregon and I was seriously planning on taking a little time to visit the place my great aunt spoke so highly of.
On the website, your before and after picture of First Street made me realize, for the first time, that places DO change quite a bit. The place my great aunt described as she saw it in the late 1800s and early 1900s can't be revisited. There's nothing wrong with that! We just can't expect time to stand still, not even for a day.
Your photos probably saved me some disappointments next year. That's a good thing. Instead of visiting Snohomish, I'll spend those extra days visiting with relatives in Oregon. Who knows, the extra time I spend in Oregon may turn out to be the best time I spend at the reunion.
Enjoyed the website,
Gary
